Internal discussion around the term FEMINISM

Workshop: Am I a Feminist?

Am I a Feminist? – Reflections from our synerSHE workshop

For 90 minutes, the synerSHE members came together to explore the question: Am I a feminist?

During our founding process, we noticed that the term feminism still sparks insecurity within our group and among the people we reached out to. There is not only hesitation around the word but also a noticeable knowledge gap and a lot of misinformation about what feminism actually means.

Looking Back to Move Forward

To ground our discussion, two of our members shared a short overview of the history of feminism, from the first wave up to today. This gave us a common starting point before moving into an open sharing round. Topics that drew our attention included the ongoing lack of women in leadership positions, as well as the devastating and widespread violence against women across the globe.

Sharing Our Experiences

In smaller groups, we reflected on moments when we spoke up and became active and on the situations where we held back.

Reasons we acted: standing up for or helping someone else, feeling anger, or simply no longer being willing to stay silent.

Reasons we hesitated: concerns about our own safety, or the fear of “ruining the mood” and being seen as too serious.

Many of us shared personal stories of harassment in public spaces, including catcalling, and how these experiences shaped our awareness and responses.

Looking Ahead

We closed the workshop by asking ourselves: How do we want to live feminism in the future—both as individuals and as a club? While we didn’t leave with final answers, we agreed to keep raising the question, to challenge ourselves, and to remain in dialogue with one another.

For synerSHE, feminism is not a label to wear lightly. It’s a practice, something we explore, question, and grow into together.
